![]() What if core releases a security update? I want to be able to conveniently update core and only core quickly. After youve installed Drupal, you can use Composer to install additional projects, like Drush, which can be especially useful when installing Drupal. Now, if my site is out in production, I would like an easy way to update core and core's vendor files WITHOUT updating a bunch of contrib modules' libraries which I do not care about. To specify a version of Drupal, replace 8.9.5 with the version you want and execute: composer create-project drupal/recommended-project:8.9.5 my-drupal-project. Whether or not I run it -with-dependencies, it will always go into the merge-plugin include paths and update all of those packages as well. Made a copy (within Linux) of the existing composer.json and composer.lock files in a different location. There were some messages in the Drupal status report about the availability of new versions of core and contributed modules. Yet, when I run composer update drupal/core -with-dependencies Installed the Drupal 9 site via composer. Next, update core to the latest Drupal 8 version. Update the modulename and patchname according to your patch file from or add your patches in the patches directory above the docroot directory. My concern is this: I have some wildcards in my composer.json similar to the ones mentioned in this issue: which tell composer where to find my modules' composer.json files. Make sure your environment is compatible with the requirements for Drupal 9. ![]() Don't get me wrong, I still used composer, but not for Drupal core updates, because those are more important and sometimes security releases.īut, in 8.4, Drush 9 is required, and in Drush 9 make files don't work at all. It updates too much or too little, has uninformative error messages,Īnd takes a lot more ram than necessary. I knew that Drush make files were being phased out, but I kept using them, because in my opinion Composer isn't the best package manager in the known universe.
